China has accused the United States of defaming its leadership.
Chinese officials of china have also called on the United States to stop "discrediting" its
leadership during high-level talks with a senior representative of US President Joe Biden.
Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Xi Jinping said the United States viewed China as an "imaginary enemy" and that "bitterness" between the two countries had increased. The Chinese leader made the remarks during talks with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. He is a senior United States official visiting China several months after the new government was formed.
Biden has a tough policy on China, especially on human rights and sanctions.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi claimed that
the United States was "blaming China for its own structural problems."
During a two-day visit Monday, Sherman spent both days in the northeastern Chinese
city of Tianjin. Many have interpreted the United States-China talks as a preparation for a
possible meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping.
